Frequently Asked Questions

Mealbook may not have Hosts available where you are searching. This is Mealbook's first season and our Hosts are still joining us. We apologise if you cannot book a meal at this time.

What time do I have to arrive?

Dinner is usually served between 7:00 and 7.30pm but you can ask your host once you have booked what time you might be able to arrive. Most hosts can be flexible to suit your travel arrangements. Discuss with them especially if other guests have also booked a meal that night. Some hosts welcome you to wander in their gardens or sit and talk with them earlier than the meal.

Can I book on the day?

Yes meals can be booked on the day but no bookings will be taken after 6:15pm.

Will hosts provide alcohol?

Some hosts will note on their listing that you can BYO. Once you have booked you can ask your hosts about drinks with your meal. They cannot sell alcohol to you but they can purchase on your behalf and may be able to arrange this for you in advance. Alcohol is not included in the price.

What if I have a food intolerance?

Most hosts will specify what requirements they can accommodate for. It is always best to let them know what your food requirements are once you have booked.

Do I have to drive myself there?


How do I know what will be served?

Initially you won't. The host describes what they like to cook and you arrive to a delightful surprise. If you have specific requirements let them know.

What if I need to cancel my booking?

Cancellation of any booking outside of 24 hours is refundable. There will be no refund of any Cancellation within 24 hours of the pre booked meal time. To cancel a meal you will need to email the host you have booked with and mealbooknz@gmail.com 24hrs in advance of your meal. Refunds will be made to your account.

What if I don't enjoy the meal?

Next year we will have a rating / review system. But until then we would ask you to contact Mealbook directly.
